Anti-Israel Protests Mar Holocaust Remembrance March

On Monday, during the “March of the Living” event held on Holocaust Remembrance Day, protesters expressed anti-Israel sentiments as they waved Palestinian flags and chanted slogans. The march, which takes place each year, involves a solemn walk from the Auschwitz death camp to the nearby Birkenau camp, where millions of people, mostly Jewish, were killed during World War II.

This year, Palestinian protesters gathered near the march, blaring sirens, waving flags, and carrying signs that read “Stop genocide.” In response to the protesters’ chants, the marchers proudly sang “Am Yisrael Chai,” a Jewish anthem.

Despite the disruptions caused by the anti-Israel protesters, the International March of the Living released a statement emphasizing the importance of remembering the victims of the Holocaust and condemning hatred and extremism. The statement highlighted the need for Holocaust education and remembrance.

Several Holocaust survivors participated in the march, including Bella Haim, an 86-year-old survivor who emphasized the resilience of the Jewish people in the face of the Holocaust. She expressed her determination to show that the Jewish community had survived and would continue to thrive.

Another survivor, Judith Tzamir, who was raised by a non-Jewish family during the war, emphasized the ongoing existence of anti-Semitism and the importance of remembering the atrocities of the Holocaust. Amid the protest, march leaders from various backgrounds, including Catholic, Evangelical, and historically black colleges, emphasized the necessity of confronting and condemning hate and anti-Semitism.

As the day unfolded, Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, former U.S. national security advisor, issued a sobering warning about the potential challenges surrounding the 2024 election. This warning underscores the critical importance of the upcoming election as a pivotal moment for the future of the United States.
