Gaetz Slams Birthright Loophole – Will GOP Rally Behind the Bold Move?

In a bold move to protect American sovereignty, Republican Rep. Matt Gaetz of Florida has introduced legislation that would put an end to the “unqualified” birthright citizenship. Gaetz’s office explained that the legislation aims to align the Immigration and Nationality Act with the original intent of the 14th Amendment’s “subject to the jurisdiction thereof” clause. If passed, the bill would ensure that automatic citizenship is no longer granted to children born within U.S. borders if their parents are not U.S. nationals (with a few exceptions, of course).

Gaetz’s bill, aptly named the “End Birthright Citizenship Fraud Act of 2023,” comes at the perfect time, just one day before the Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas is scheduled to appear before the House Judiciary Committee. Gaetz is not wasting any time in calling out the egregious misuse of birthright citizenship, which has provided illegal aliens with a loophole to abuse our immigration system. He knows that American citizenship is a privilege, not some free-for-all entitlement that can be handed out to anyone who happens to be within our borders.

The Center for Immigration Studies revealed in 2018 that close to 400,000 “anchor babies” are born each year in the United States. Let that sink in for a moment. That’s a staggering number that should raise concerns among Americans who value the integrity of our immigration system. It’s clear that birthright citizenship has been grossly misapplied, allowing for wide-scale fraud perpetrated by those who enter our country illegally.

While the United States and Canada continue to offer unrestricted birthright citizenship, it’s worth noting that most developed nations have implemented restrictions. It’s about time our country joins them in protecting our borders and ensuring that citizenship is not merely handed out like candy on Halloween. This move by Gaetz should be celebrated, as it sets us on a path towards a more responsible and secure immigration system.

Conservative commentator Charlie Kirk is absolutely right in stating that every Republican should support Gaetz’s legislation. Those who refuse to do so are simply not serious about getting our border under control. It’s time to prioritize the American people and their well-being over the misguided notion that birthright citizenship should be unconditional.

This issue is not a partisan one – it’s about safeguarding our nation’s future. Gaetz’s legislation is a critical step towards restoring order and integrity to our immigration system. If the American people want true immigration reform, they should support elected officials like Gaetz, as well as GOP presidential candidates who have pledged to end this practice once and for all. Our nation’s sovereignty is at stake, and it’s time to take a stand.
