Former President Donald Trump took a jab at Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, mocking him for his alleged use of high heel lifts inside his cowboy boots. Trump, always quick with a witty remark, commented that a “really good debater” could force DeSantis to take off his shoes on live television to expose the lifts inside them. Trump added, “Did you see him walk off the stage in the last debate? He could barely walk. He walks like a duck.”

DeSantis has faced criticism in recent months for supposedly wearing these lifts to enhance his height, a claim he vehemently denies. In an interview on the PBD podcast, DeSantis adamantly stated that he does not wear such lifts and that he is 5’11”. He further defended his choice of boots, stating that they are off-the-shelf Lucchese boots without any lifts.

As this story gained traction on social media and news outlets, numerous experts were consulted to determine the truth behind the allegations. However, despite the attention, DeSantis remains a popular figure in the Republican party and a potential contender in the 2024 GOP presidential race. Nevertheless, his standing in the polls has slipped in comparison to both Trump and Nikki Haley.
With the Iowa caucuses and the New Hampshire primary quickly approaching, all eyes are on the Republican candidates. It remains to be seen how this shoe controversy, pardon the pun, will impact DeSantis’s future prospects. Regardless, it seems Trump has no intentions of holding back on the humor and the jabs.
