Former Democratic Senator Claire McCaskill spouted controversial comments on a recent MSNBC segment with host Nicolle Wallace. McCaskill purports that Jesus Christ himself would be disturbed by America’s lack of gun control following the tragic mall shooting in Texas. How long does it take for Democrats to turn a tragedy into a political spectacle? Apparently, just a few hours. Why bring up religion in this debate? The Democratic Party will, undoubtedly, pull their usual tactics of appealing to emotions and cherry-picking anecdotes to support their cause, despite overwhelming evidence and common sense that proves gun control laws do not work.

The shooting, which is nothing short of despicable, had a mentally ill man behind the trigger. Political affiliation aside, a person’s mental stability affects their ability to own, behave themselves around, and use guns. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, and a mental health process for gun buyers should become standardized across every state. It’s not about taking away people’s guns; it’s about preventing the mentally unstable and criminals from getting a hold of firearms.
McCaskill needs to realize that politicians pushing for gun control laws will not solve America’s mass shooting epidemic. Her rhetoric is a distraction from the real issue at hand, which is mental health and the proper screening of gun buyers. The United States has a long history of defending itself against tyranny and totalitarianism, and she wants people to be “walking around without weapons”? As history has shown, the only people who disarm a population are tyrannical governments. Let’s not forget that former President Obama did some of the most harm in restricting gun rights, and Democratic presidential nominee, Joe Biden, has made it very clear that he is open to taking more extreme measures to gain control of gun laws. There are plenty of reasons to believe that the Democratic Party is more interested in grabbing power and control than truly helping the American people.
