Disney+ Teaches Preschoolers About Equity In Its Latest Episode
Disney has been accused of pushing a leftist agenda on children after airing a minute and a half long episode on Disney+ aimed at preschoolers, which purportedly teaches children about equity. The episode, titled “Learn about Fairness” of “Ready For Preschool” by Disney Junior uses classic Disney characters, Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Pluto and Goofy, to explain the concepts of equality and equity.
The episode begins with the four characters on a picnic, teaching children that for things to be fun, they must be equal. Mickey gives his friends the same amount of food for lunch, explaining that equality is when everyone receives the exact same portions. However, the episode also argues that “some of the time equality just doesn’t make things fair.”
The show goes on to explain that in such cases, equity is required to ensure fairness. For example, the show explains that at an apple orchard, while some of us are short, others may be tall, so some people may need help when it comes to reaching the fruits.
However, critics argue that this episode is politically motivated and seeks to indoctrinate children towards leftist ideologies. They argue that children shouldn’t be bombarded with such complex concepts at such young ages and that it is the duty of parents and guardians to teach these values.
Moreover, this is not the first time Disney has been accused of overreaching in its attempt to inculcate values in children. In 2022, the corporation stopped using the phrases “boys and girls” or “ladies and gentlemen” in its shows in an effort to be more inclusive. The company has also come under fire for shutting down iconic attractions, such as “Splash Mountain,” on the grounds that they promote “racial stereotypes.”
Disney has recently become embroiled in a dispute over Republican Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ Parental Rights in Education bill, which prohibits lessons on gender identity and sexual orientation in Pre-K-12 classrooms. Critics have argued that Disney’s recent episode is part of the corporation’s left-wing agenda to push critical race theory and leftist dogma on children.
It remains to be seen how successful the episode will be among young children, but parents must remain vigilant and ensure that their children receive a balanced education.
