On Thursday night, the White House played host to a star-studded state dinner for Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit. However, amid the glitz and glamour of the event, the most intriguing guest was none other than Hunter Biden, the son of President Joe Biden. Hunter, embroiled in a family scandal involving corruption, made a grand entrance at the event, despite his recent federal tax and firearms charges plea deal.

The dinner also had an unwelcome guest in the form of Attorney General Merrick Garland, who is at the center of allegations related to interfering with the investigation into Hunter Biden. Two IRS whistleblowers have offered testimony in which they allege that the Department of Justice, FBI, and IRS tampered with the investigation.

Other prominent guests included fashion designers Reem Acra and Ralph Lauren, director M. Night Shyamalan, and notable members from the Biden family. However, the presence of prominent Republicans, including House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) and Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-LA), showed that politics played an important part in the event.
Republicans have voiced their concern over the plea deal granted to Hunter Biden and the alleged interference by the DOJ in his investigation. Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) has been vocal in his disapproval of the leniency shown to Hunter, comparing it to the harsh sentence handed down to a Virginia mother for a similar firearms offense and actor Wesley Snipes on tax charges.
Whistleblowers are also making allegations of interference in the investigation into Hunter Biden, with claims of delays, a lack of transparency, and threats from the Defense Council. Representatives have pointed out that crucial information about the investigation was prematurely shared with Hunter’s attorneys, and that IRS investigators faced internal roadblocks in their investigation, despite a clear case for tax liability.
The state dinner, intended to celebrate international diplomacy, has turned into a platform for discussing the perceived leniency shown to Hunter Biden and the apparent interference by the DOJ in his case.
